Look Up From Your Screen
Imagine yourself in the world where you could stay in front of a laptop, phone, video games the whole day. Would that lead us to a good use of technology or just causing more problems with our health and our daily basis. In this argument there are both sides, one side might be that using screen time during daily basis increases our confidence towards people and the world, also now our technology is clearly advanced so we have the opportunity to do anything. On the other hand using screen time daily might cause health issues, have a bad influence in relationships, and knowledge and skills. Studies have shown arguments on both sides of screen time, but most might agree that screen time could bring us some issues further on.
There are many bad and negative aspects towards the use of screen time. One way that this proves us that relationships on screen time is a bad influence on people and especially teens are that social media starts to cause problems with behaviors, attitude towards people all along the day. Studies have shown that social media has decreased empathy which can cause people in schools and outside of school to bully or act violent towards others and treat others differently. Sometimes there are even violations on the internet, social media called cyberbullying and many teens are familiar to this. Another example that screen time has a bad influence is that teens think about themselves and feel “clueless” and “invisible” to other people and feel like the world is revolving over them. The last example of risk towards relationships in screen time, is that having the daily activity to go on social media and talking to people to start lying about their lives and themselves and it doesn't encourage them to tell the truth.
Another way that screen time is used negatively and affects people around us in a bad way is by their health issues and how much time we spend time on the internet and social media’s. One way that being on the internet for such long time is by damaging your eyesight which brings us to the argument of to medical care. In this way, i can discuss that many people are now wearing glasses because of staying so much on the computer and using it for such a long time, all during the day. In another way, research shows that most of the time people using time spent online compared has shown less time showing productivity. One of the most significant pieces of evidence that supports health issues by Kathryn Doyle published in Health, today it results that if " Using any device in the hour before bed was associated with a 13 to 52 percent increase in the likelihood of needing more than 60 minutes to fall asleep, the researchers found." This result that there is a connection between screen time and how it affects over our sleeping time. People that use social media or do multitasking everyday have resulted to get fewer bad grades in the school and bad productivity over their school assignments, no concentration at all, fewer brain problems such as short term memory etc.
Lastly screen time is bad because we lose some kinds of knowledge and some skills towards our lives because of the many things that are now easily made for everything we do. Nowadays, many of us might do multitasking. Multitasking is when you use or do many things at the same time and due to the multitasking it's has shown some decreases in productivity. Screen time also results that while you were multitasking it leads in the world of bad grades and they decrease over time and our students are now harder to find jobs and having a degree due to the bad grades that influence our lives, unfortunately. One of the undeniable risks over screen time is that " Pew Research showed in 2008, 50 percent of teens said they sometimes use informal writing styles instead of proper capitalization and punctuation in their school assignments.".... "The use of technology is growing, especially for college students. Platforms like Microsoft Word, which autocorrect misspellings, punctuation, and grammatical errors, can easily cover up students’ mistakes." This supports the idea that screen time has a risk towards the students and teenagers teachings and learnings. Nowadays they use informal language and start to abbreviate everything, including in school assignments and they are used to the high technology that corrects all their work. Another example is that researchers found instant gratification which means it decreases your problem - solving skills which bring difficulty in solving life problems to everyday causes. While using the internet and doing things such as homework brings a lot of distractions and you get taken away from what you're actually supposed to be doing. Then we are mostly likely to do things that are entertaining to us than doing what we are supposed to be doing.
We can all agree that there are both positive and negative aspects to the use of screen time, but it is undeniable that there are far more risks of using screens for hours a day. Overall, the use of screen time is evidently not a good option for anyone. The usage of too much technology can cause many crucial risks to our health, such as asthma, hearing loss, obesity, and heart failure. There are also many dangerous mental issues that screen time can cause, such as depression, anxiety, and alcohol problems and there's no reason to risk even more. We then discussed how addicting screen time can get and how influenceable teens can get nowadays. According to Amy’s argument, 50% of teens say they use informal styles of writing instead of proper punctuation, grammar and spelling in their school assignments. Lastly, we also argued that screen time causes bad relationships between family, friends and even strangers. According to researchers, they concluded that children who are aggressive will have fewer friends and be more likely to be bullies or victims of bullying.
